Community Service

Four more baby quilts are ready to be delivered:

and today a huge box of fabric was donated....can't wait to get this sorted and washed, pressed, and cut.....ready to stitch into a warm bundle for a sweet tyke.

The Piney Hills Quilters do a remarkable amount of community service and they make it fun and they make it easy. When fabric is donated, a dedicated group cleans it up then cuts the smaller pieces of fabric into 6" square blocks. No matter the color, no matter the pattern - they find other donated fabrics that will coordinate. Fifty six of these color coordinated blocks will make a baby quilt 7 blocks wide and 8 blocks long. Now the icing on the cake....The guild purchases the batting for these quilts and the blocks, batting (cut to size), donated fabric for backing is kitted up in a zip bag, ready for members to take home each month.    Fifty six blocks will make a 40" by 46" quilt top, so at this size, the quilting is easy.   You see, there's no reason not to be a part of the community and this guild is making it happen.

Now, scroll back to the top picture and look closely at the coordinated blocks.  While I'll be the first to admit to loving those color coordinated Moda Charm Packs, I'll have to say that finding a way to put these blocks together gives me a real feel-good feeling.

After the sewing was done:  I re-engineered my treadle sewing machine as the base for the glass topped  breakfast table.....it's just the two of us, so this size fits us perfectly for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

And, another example of a re-purposed Singer base in the powder room:

How about you?  How have you re-purposed your sewing machine base?

Now here's a lot of hex love!

Follow along and enter each day for a chance to win:   The link schedule is here at Moda Lissa.  It started August 20 at I'm A Ginger Monkey and will continue on into September.  Have a hexa go-go at it!  Hexa go-go by Tacha Bruecher....a book tour.

Busy Quilters: ALL

This group is always busy:  Piney Hills Quilters, Ruston, Louisiana.  The guild meets the second Thursday every month, 9:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hwy 167 North, Ruston....and they welcome guests, whether you are a quilter or not!  With their enthusiasm, you'll be drawn in in no time.

Community Service is a way of life for these ladies, young and older, all make pillow cases and Christmas stockings.....every month....and they are adorable ~

And baby quilts for Life's Choice:

And more little things for this, that or the other:

Here's Sarah's quilt...She's a senior this year and looking forward to a fun-filled senior year and then she says she'll be college bound.  Sarah, you rock (and do a darn good job of quilting too!)

and Debbie has her Sunbonnet Sue hits New York all quilted and ready for her binding.  It's a beauty.

Marilyn calls this her This and That quilt.

Oh, and just lay your eyes on this beauty:  and it's gonna belong to someone.  It's the Heritage Quilt Guild, Jonesboro, Louisiana, raffle quilt.  Tickets are on sale and the winner will be announced in December.  Go ahead and say it out loud:  "I want this quilt." Now, go find a member and buy that winning raffle ticket.  Yes, you can!

She's a lady: Addicted to Baby Grab Balls

Yes, Gene Cosentino is the very first to admit:  She's addicted to making baby grab balls!
and we're loving her addiction

Pictured are just a few she brought yesterday to the Piney Hills (Ruston, Louisiana) Quilt Guild meeting.

She's lost count of the ones previous to this showing, but admits that there's more on the cutting board
ready to be sewn and stuffed!

They will become gifts to baby friends
